My Dad's trip to London

                                                           My Dad's Trip To London

My dad went to London for a business trip. I asked him to take some photos of London landmarks for my blog, and he came of home with some stellar images to share with you. He even got me some souvenirs from the United Kingdom.

These are the things my dad brought me from London: A street sign, a notebook, pens and pencils and some fabulous post cards.
During the trip, my dad went to a Chelsea Football Club match. They were going up against a German team called Schalke in the Champion's League Tournament. Chelsea won  3-0 in their home stadium which is called Stamford Bridge (notice the street sign above).

My dad could see the entire field from his seats.  It was a great game, and Chelsea went home happy. Schalke did not.

These are double decker buses. They are very common in London.  Usually, they are red. They have staircases in them. A bus ride  in London costs 2 pounds and 40 pence. How much does that cost in US currency?

These three pictures are pictures of Buckingham Palace. On the left, you'll see the front gates. On the right, you'll see the whole front of the Palace. In the middle, you'll see the royal guards who watch the Palace 24/7. Their hats are very humorous to me, because they are tall and fuzzy.

Do you notice anything different about this car?
I'll give you a hint:  In London, cars don't drive on the
same side of the road that we do here in the USA.

This is a London phone booth. They are very known around the world as a symbol of London.

This is big Ben, a gigantic clock in London. If you saw Cars 2, you would have seen Mater, Finn Micmissle, and Holly Shiftwell tied to the gears. It is a very old clock. It is one of the most important landmarks in London.

This leads to the London underground. If you look very closely, you'll see a sign saying "Underground". That leads to the London subway system, which is an easy and fast way to get to around this world class city.

  1. @ Peter,

I loved your new post about London! What a great way to share about the world! Please thank your dad for helping us learn about this great European city!

The red, double-decker buses and the red telephone booths are icons of London. I saw them both when I was in London many, many years ago. When I first got to the city, I took a city tour, and it was on one of the double deckers.

As a tourist, of course I visited Buckingham Palace. I stood outside for a while and watched the changing of the guard. I followed your link to World Book Online and did a little research. I followed a hyperlink to information about Buckingham Palace. I was surprised to learn that the palace has 600 rooms! Can you imagine the size and the upkeep costs! In addition, the is a 40 acre garden. The palace was built in 1705. How old is the structure?

Mrs. Mongnahan's class took a field trip to London last year. Here is a link to their post about it.

Did your dad see the London Eye? That is a new tourist attraction that was not there when I was there.

    Cheers!

    Mrs. Y♥llis

  4. I love all the pictures of London. I really enjoyed visiting London! I went to Big Ben, road on "The Tube" and even got to drive a car from what felt like the passenger side. The Tower of London (not the bridge, the actual castle) was my favorite. Did your dad get to go there?

  5. Dear Peter,

I love soccer so much! I want to tell you some teams that play in England: Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Swansee, Aston Villa, Fulham, Newcastle, Stoke City ,Everton, Southampton, Hull City , and Crystal Palace. Now I am just going to say random teams: Real Madrid, Barcelona , PSG , QPR , LA Galaxy, and Salt Lake City. That is all I am going to say for now. I know many more soccer teams and I will tell them to you at school.
I would like to share facts with you about London. London is the capital of England .The Queen of England lives in London. In London, it snows badly and I'm not kidding. It also rains a lot. Most people in London drink tea in the morning with a biscuit. All of the cars in London have the steering wheels on the right side, not on the left, like we do in the United States.

I really like all of the adjectives you used in your blog. You used many pictures to show what you were talking about, which is what great bloggers do! It brought your blog to life. My only suggestion is to add alt tag modifiers to your pictures. Mrs. Yollis is doing a great job teaching you all how to be wonderful bloggers. Here is a link to my class blog if you would like to look! EDM310

  7. Wow Peter, what a great blog!

I loved this post. For three years I lived in the Netherlands, which is a small country near Great Britain. Your picture of Big Ben reminded me of a a boat cruise I took on the Thames. When I would visit, one of my favorite places to visit was the Tower of London.

The first year I lived in Europe, it broke a record for yearly rainfall- 300 days in a row. Do you like rain?

    Your friend,
    Mrs. Levy
