Organization, the Key to Success!

Mrs. Yollis, my fabulous teacher, gave me an idea for a blog post: Organization!  I like to have an organized desk and supply box.  It helps me find things easily.  Here are some tips to keep your desk organized:

1. Inside of your desk on the right, you should have all your folders, your math practice book and your journal. On top of all that you should have you supply box.

2.  Inside of your desk on the left, you should have your dictionary on the bottom, then your reading book, next your purple floppy and finally, last but not least, your library book.

This is my desk, taken by a wonderful photographer, Mrs. Yollis.  If you notice my well, you'll see two pencils, a highlighter, a little bit of red (that's my red pen), and finally an eraser.  These are all tools I like to have access to.

This is my supply box.  It is organized just like I like it. It is equipped with crayons, thick markers, thin markers, scissors, headphones, colored pencils, and a highlighter. Bundling supplies with a rubber band really helps keep things in order.

Do you have a organized desk and organized supply box?
How do you organize your desk?

  1. Dear Peter,

I am so glad that you liked my idea for a blog post. The idea really came from you. When everyone was admiring your neat supply box, I could tell there was a need for help in this area.

Your use of bundling I think is a good one! Lots of students have a jumbled box of supplies, and they can never find anything!

    There is an old saying:

A place for everything and everything in its place. You have illustrated that point perfectly!

    How do you maintain organization?

    Your proud teacher,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

  2. Dear Peter
I do like to feel organised (in New Zealand we spell it with an 's' not a 'z') in both my classroom and at home, but all too soon little piles of books and papers begin to form and grow once more! Luckily I have sprong break coming up, giving me time to reorganise yet again.

I was interested to note that your desk has shelf space that you slide your supplies in to. The desks that older students in our school use have lift-up lids. The students in B4 work at group tables and keep their supplies in tote trays in a cabinet.

Which do you think you would prefer?

    regards
Mrs McKenzie from B4, New Zealand

    1. Dear Peter,

That is a very good looking desk that you have in both of the pictures. It really helps to have a good desk. What helps about it is that you can get stuff out quickly, and get rewards from good people.

How does it help you have a clean desk?

      Sincerely,

      Bryc♣ and Ben

  3. Dear Peter,

That is an organized desk if I ever saw an organized desk. The crayons are all on the left, meanwhile the markers thin and thick and the colored pencils with it are on the right. Then the erasers, all lonely in the middle of things. Also on the other half of the box we have the unknown family. This is a group of supply's that there are only one of them. I do the same thing with the rubber bands in my supply box. This is the way I organize my desk.

First, on my left hand side, I have my supply box with my paragraph writing paper and sometimes my book hangs around on top of the supply box.

Second, I have my right hand side where I keep my Dictionary with my math and purple floppy's. This is where I also store the school third grade reading book.

Last, I have my seat sack. In there I have my alpha smart and my folder. That is about all that I have in stock to share today.

    Thank you for the help.

    Sincerely,

    Bryc♣

    1. Dear Bryc♠,

That order in your desk is correct. I like organization, do you like organization? I always keep my library book on the top left. I always love to organize my crayons in my supply box by color. Do you organize your crayons by color?

  6. Dear Peter,

I think you have a very organized desk and supply box!

I also think Mrs. Yollis is an amazing photographer!

I organize my desk by putting my dictionary, reading book, binder, and clipboard on the right, and my math book, practice book, atlas, homework folder, supply box, mini dictionary, and Reading Counts book on my left side.

What is your favorite thing in your desk?

    Sincerely,
    Chloe

  7. Dear Peter,
You certainly have a wonderful technique! I love how you used rubber bands to keep all of your crayons, markers and colored pencils together. I am sure it is a much more efficient way to keep your supplies sorted. Would you like to come by my class one day and teach my first graders how to organize their desks? That would be so helpful.

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Broussard

    1. Dear Peter,
What an organized desk you have! I bet it is easy to find things in your desk and you get your supplies out when we need them easily. What do you think is more organized, your supplies or your textbooks?

How do you keep your desk organized all the time?

    2. Hi Peter,
Your desk does look incredibly organized. I bet having it like that makes finding any materials easy and quick. I wish some of my own students would keep their materials and supplies as neat and organized as yours. I may take a few tips from you back to my own classroom!
      Thanks for the inspiration,
      Deborah (Ben's mom)
