A Special Delivery!

                                                          Special Delivery!

Today, we received a wonderful gift! I bet you guys can't guess what it is! The gift came from Wisconsin, from my grandparents!  They moved to Texas and decided to give us something very special, it is a musical instrument.  This instrument was a gift to my Grandfather for his 10th birthday.  I will now give you some clues to figure out what the musical instrument is ;).

  1. It has 52 white keys.
  2. It has 36 black keys.
  3. It is very big and makes beautiful sounds (when played correctly).
  4. Mozart played this instrument.

Can you guys guess what the special delivery is?

It's a piano!  There are other people that play piano in our class. Heather plays piano and so does Chloe

Do you play piano?
If not, do you play an instrument?

  1. Dear Peter,

Congratulations on your special delivery! That is a wonderful present, and I hope you will learn to enjoy it. I also play the piano and still have the piano that I learned on when I was a little girl. Today, my children play on this very same piano, and it still sounds great. Will you start piano lessons? Have you tried your new instrument?

I can't wait to see a post of you playing.

    All the best,
    Victoria

  2. Dear Peter,

Wow! When you said your family got a special delivery, I did not expect it to be a piano!

You are very fortunate to get such a wonderful instrument from your grandparents. We had a piano when I was growing up. Actually, we had three pianos! My mom studied piano for nearly twenty years and then taught piano for over three decades. As you can see, we were a piano-loving family.

Here is how we acquired three pianos. My mom had a piano of her own. When my Grandma Smillie came to live with us when she was in her eighties, she brought her grand piano. Finally, when my Grandma Frances moved to a smaller house in Montana, she shipped her piano to us.

We no longer have three pianos. My mom still has her grand, I have the Montana piano, and my mom's former piano student has her original piano.

I took piano lessons when I was little. Sometimes, I wanted to quit because it was boring at times. However, I did not. Today, I still enjoy playing and I am thankful for that. Having a piano to play is like having a friend who is always there for you. :-)

Here is a post where you can see my mom playing the piano. It was for a flag retirement party.

Do you think you will learn to play the piano?

  3. Hello from Nebraska! WOW! A piano! I wish I knew how to play the piano! I have several students in my class who take piano lessons. I teach second grade and sometimes the kids invite me to their piano concerts. At this time I do not play any instruments. I think one day when I retire I would like to take up piano lessons as an adult. Do you enjoy playing the piano and do you have a favorite song you like to play?

    1. Dear Michelle,

You live in Nebraska? You're a long way from us! The piano is a special instrument, and it is very fun to play! I do enjoy playing piano, and my favorite song to play is Same Love, by Macklemore an'd Ryan Lewis. Macklemore is a rapper and Ryan Lewis is his Dj. I haven't started lessons yet, my Mom needs to get the piano tuned.

      Thank you for the comment,

      Peter

Dear Peter, We remember promising your Dad that when you were ready you could come next door to use our piano to learn to hit those keys & practice. Your Dad played the blue piano (our children learned to play on it- also given to them by their Grandmother who was a music teacher) in the living room with such great style & choice of chords we knew how much he loved music with a great beat. We are so happy you have such a handsome & historical gift from your Grandfather. You & he will have a lot to share as you get to know how to put all those notes together.Have fun creating new sounds & rhythms! Perhaps you could write a song about snow. Someday we wish to hear you play. Mary-Lou, Frank, Chris & Jen

    3. Dear Mary-Lou, Frank, Chris and Jen,

Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog! I miss you guys! I wish I could be in New York and see the snow! If I were to write a song about snow, I would NOT write it about California with snow, I'd write it about New York with snow! Right now it's around 49 degrees and the high is going to be in the 60's. It has finally cooled off here! It has been really warm.

I hope to see you this summer!

      Warmly,

  5. Dear Peter,

Your story about the piano touched my heart. When I was a little girl, I took lessons for 4 years. I wasn't very musical, but it always felt good to sit down and play. After I got married, Papa Steve gave me a piano for my birthday. It looked just like the one in your picture. I played it for many years. Today it sits in my garage waiting for its new home. I hope that will be at Bryce's house, so he and Hunter can learn to play too. Thank you for sharing your story. It means a lot when precious possessions are passed down from one generation to another. Do you have any other special things that once belonged to members of your family?

    Sincerely,
    Gaga, aka Ellen
